Spring 2017 Line-up



shattered glass mosaic class  

Wednesday, april 5th and friday april 7th   6:3pm - 9:00pm

Heike Winfield of Belhaven will return to teach an exciting class using broken glass, marbles, and a variety of other materials to create a framed mosaic picture on glass, sealed in epoxy and ready to display in a window or show off on a shelf.  Using a template of your choice, you will create a lasting work of art in this 2-evening class.  You are welcome to bring any materials of your own.

Total cost is $50.00 plus $8.00 for materials that includes everything for a finished piece.

Glass Mosaic Class

cold processed soap making class

saturday, april 8th    12:00 - 2:00pm

Instructor and expert soap maker, Susan Woodward, owner of Mermaid Tales, Elizabeth city will take you step-by-step through the cold processing method of soap making.  Her ingredients will include lye (safety glasses and gloves are required and provided), a variety of oils (premixed) and Lavender oil for fragrance.  Students will first be instructed on each step (handouts with resources and tips included) and then given the opportunity to make their own.  They will then take home the 1 lb. (in a mold) to set overnight to harden.  Cutting the finished bars will be demonstrated during the class. This class is limited to 5, but more classes may be scheduled on demand.

Total cost is $30 and includes all materials.

Saturday, April 22nd   10:00am - 1:00pm

Sending or receiving a hand-made card is a rare treat these days, but you can brighten someone's day by learning how to make personalized cards in this fun class led by Anita Price.  She has a wealth of information and supplies to help you make 6-12 special memories to keep or send away.  Light refreshments will be provided, compliments of the instructor.  Other pleasant surprises are in store. Maximum number of students will be held to 10, so don't delay and sign up now.  We hope to get her back in the fall for Christmas cards!

3-D Faux Stained Glass Painting Class

Friday, May 12th    6:30pm - 8:30pm

Heike is one of our favorite instructors here and she's back to teach another fun-filled class involving a framed glass, nail polish, and a wide variety of shells, beads, and such.  Please bring your creative spirit and your favorite hot glue gun (if you have one) and have a great time with friends on a Friday night creating a beautiful glass painting to take home and enjoy.

 Cost is $35 plus $10 for all materials per student.

Glass Etching Class with Cathy Clayton

Saturday, May 13   9:00am - 12:00pm

Learn the wonderful art of glass etching with Cathy in the Down Draft studio!  She will take you through the basics and help you create a fantastic piece of art to take home and treasure.  This skill is so adaptable to many applications from monogramming casserole dishes to making custom mugs and wine glasses.  The ideas are endless.  Afterward you can come in and use our studio and equipment (for a small fee) to create to your heart's content! The class is limited to just 6.  Hurry to sign up now.

Glass Etching Class

Wood Burning basics with cathy clayton

Saturday, May 13th     1:00pm - 4:00pm

The ancient art of wood burning (also known as Pyrography) is a form of art that carries from generation to generation.  It is done with a simple wood burning tool and wood and the results can be astounding.  Just take a look at Cathy's productions for proof of that.  She will offer an advanced class later on for those who want to take this to another level.  We also have the Studio available for individual projects.

Cost is $40 with all materials provided.  This class is also limited to 6 students.


Silver Clay Jewelry Class

Saturday, May 20th    9:00am - 1200pm  and  1:00pm - 4:00pm

There will be 2 classes offered, 1 in the morning for pendants, and if that fills up, another in the afternoon for earrings.

Join Art Clay certified instructor Donna Sneed for an introduction to the properties and use of metal clay in the form of .999 fine silver.  Students will use their imaginations to create a two-layer fine silver pendant or a pair of fine silver earrings.  Finished greenware will go home with the instructor for kiln firing and polishing and will be returned by May 26 for pickup by the students.  Class size is limited to 10 students.

Class fee is $40.00.  Materials and use of tools are $15.00
